Royal Europa sponsors programme of "Constructing the Polish Artificial Heart"
Royal Europa sponsors programme of "Constructing the Polish Artificial Heart" which is
being promoted by the Fund of Developing the cardio surgery and is led
by Professor Zbigniew Religa. Sponsorship contract was written in the beginning of December
last year. That means that during the whole year 2005 we will support
development of Polish cardio surgery and implementation of new techniques and technologies
within the scope of curing the heart. The contract allows Royal Europa
to use the logo of Polish Artificial Heart as well as the description which sounds "Royal Europa
supports the Programme of Constructing Polish Artificial Heart".
In Poland, about 3,5 - 4,0 thousands people qualify for transplantation of a heart. Only one patient of 10 may receive a heart from a natural donator. Accordingly to the statistics every day 9 of 10 patients die in Polish hospitals. Implantation is necessary in case of a complete insufficiency of a heart. In 70 to 80% main reasons are: complications after pneumonia, influenza, angina. All of us may suffer from these diseases regardless of sex and age.
As Professor Religa says, definitely too many Poles die for heart diseases. Therefore in the Fund of cardio surgery in Zabrze there are conducted reaserches focused on constructing Polish artificial heart. For many people, especially those who suffer from a heart failure, an artificial heart may be the only help.
Polish Artificial Heart is the top achievement of a Polish science. It is an implant appliance of an orange size, made of PVC and augmented by a small accumulator which is boosted inductively through the skin from the battery of a pager size worn at the belt. This small appliance will allow many people to come back to a daily life.
Authors and Partners of the Programme of Constructing Polish Artificial Heart treat it as a national programme for the reason of its value, significance and prestige and the realization of its programme is their most important social mission in the nearest decade. The main goal of its programme is to gain in possibly shortest time over 25 mln zloty and start a systematic production of an artificial hearts. An export price of Polish artificial heart will be lower than any other competitive devices on international markets. Revenue of export sales will allow to decrease a price for Polish hospitals, what in consequence will cause the common accessibility for all ill people in Poland.
Very important goal of this programme is also health prophylaxis, promotion of an active, healthy way of living, reasonable diet and practicing sports. It increases also a general state of health and a natural resistance of a body, what consequently diminishes receptivity to infections which very often cause complications leading to heart- failure.
